This work explores the idea of breakups serving as catalysts for growth and reflection, whether they are romantic endings, a dream never realized, a family feud, or breaking away from the labels thrust upon one's personal identity. These words encourage the notion that through our constant mishaps, which lead us to fall apart again and again, we can create and share empathy between individuals and communities.

Windrose Magazine

Kristalyn's writing about the season following college graduation titled "To the Next 365 Days" was published on the prominent blog "That First Year," an online forum hosted by Windrose Magazine designed for discussing how to troubleshoot reality after your college education is over.

Bowery Poetry Club

Kristalyn's poem "questionable pastime" was performed at Open Mic Night at the Bowery Poetry Club. Watch Kristalyn's reading as she presents her encounters at a local art museum.

WZMB Radio Interview

Convocation Speaker

Kristalyn spoke at the ECU Honors College Freshmen Convocation ceremony, using poetry to express the beauty and excitement of transition in her work titled "Where roots reach, branches climb." Read a copy of this piece here.

ECU Honors Blog

Kristalyn twice wrote for the ECU Honors College Living Learning Blog. Her first writing includes her reflections on choreographing for the Honors College Fine Arts Gala. Her second entry entails her notes on speaking at the Honors College Freshmen Convocation ceremony.

RCAW

Kristalyn presented research in 2015 and 2017 at East Carolina University's Research and Creative Achievement Week. In 2015, she shared findings on the correlations between chronic pain and dance performance. In 2017, she showcased a selection of her multimedia installation work, "BbOaNrEeS," which addressed social anxiety regarding vulnerability and its associations to fear and deterioration of the self.

UNC Greensboro

Kristalyn was a featured speaker during the statewide Honors College Research Symposium held by the Lloyd International Honors College at University of North Carolina at Greensboro. There, she presented her research paper titled "Pain on pointe: The relationship between dance performance and pain."
